So how do you go about adding a video to a Point2 Agent website, well the first question is what type of video is it? Is this a listing presentation, a company bio, a welcome message, the second question is what format is it in and do you have the tools and experience to convert it to alternate formats?
One of the first questions I ask clients regarding videos they are wanting integrated on the site is whether or not the video has the ability to stand alone out of context of the website, if not is it possible to make it so (some it's not like a welcome to our site type video).
If the Video has any standalone quality to it then my first recommendation is that the agent consider using a tool like TubeMogul to push the video out to as many video sites as possible including YouTube, Vimeo etc. This will take some time to set up the very first time while you set up accounts with each video hosting sites, however using TubeMogul will allow for one click uploading of future videos to all the sites that are configured to receive your video.
By pushing the video out via TubeMogul, it can allow for the generation of additional traffic to the website that the video is being embedded on. For more details on how please contact us for consultation.
If the Video lacks that standalone promotional quality to it I would still recommend uploading either to YouTube or Vimeo for hosting, this will allow you to embed your video without having to pay for a third party web hosting account, and messing with manually converting your video into a web friendly format such as the flv or Flash Video format.
From here you can opt to use the video hosting sites embed link or set up a custom player, the custom player route is the most desirable and the most complicated - we recommend you employ the services of an experienced webmaster (preferably one with Point2 and Video experience, of course we do offer this service).
If for ease and budgetary purposes you opt for using the embed tags it is really as simple as logging into the page you wish to embed the video on, selecting or adding the content module, when in the edit mode for the modules content click on the source button(custom content) and add the embed script.
If you would like to have your text wrap around your video player; surround your embedding code with a floating div tag that looks like this:
<div style="float:right;width:500px;height:300px"> your embed code here </div>
Obviously adjust the width and height to that required for your embedded video player.
This can become quite fun when we move to adding video players with playlists for multiple videos.
While the potential to increase traffic exists from the multiple video hosting sources, this additional traffic can often be of a less qualified nature, resulting in a lower conversion ration of visitors to prospects, however it is important to note that one of the factors the search engines consider in indexing a website is the traffic levels to that site, so all traffic is good traffic, even that with little chance of becoming clients
